Do You Know What This Is ?
| This interesting piece was discovered recently by Bill Wilson in Victorville California near an old church. He was using his Garrett 550x detector and the piece was buried about 4 inches. It is made of thin copper, is 1 3/4" tall and 1 3/8" wide. There are 26 holes radiating around the center and they are numbered 1 to 26. | ![]() |

| It looks like part of a simple coding/decoding device. It probably had another part attached with the alphabets A thru Z in a circle corresponding to the 26 windows. With a pin thru the middle hole you could rotate the device to achieve a simple scrambling method. Thats my guess, R. Hooper. |
| Southern Baptist have a youth organization called the Royal Ambassadors. Could be this was something used by members of that youth organization? Sherman Wilson |
| I think you will find that this item is an Orphan Annie decoder used by children in the 1930s. A strange thing is that I also found one of these near my home in Idaho. There is a missing back piece that turned behind it that had letters on it to decode secret messages broadcast on the radio show. R.O.A. I believe stands for RADIO ORPHAN ANNIE.
